A TRIP TO JIN JU
Our school director and his wife took us on a really interesting day trip to the oldest capital of Korea, Jin Ju. We went by train and it was a wonderful day. The history of Korea is a rather sad affair of neighbouring nations mounting unprovoked attacks upon her. In 1592, and 1597, the Japanese invaded Korea with the attempt to take her over. The city of Jin Jun was the capital at the time, and this is the city that the Japanese chose to attack. They came up the river from the ocean with hundreds and hundreds of warships and guns, and even though the Koreans only had bows and swords, they were able to defend successfully! But thousands lost their lives needlessly. As we walked around the walls and the battlefields, I could just imagine the carnage........................but history is history, and now the city attracts many visitors. They have a beautiful museum. I saw a huge, double handed sword in there........man, that thing must be five feet long and weigh 30 pounds!

It was on this rock 400 years ago that a young woman pushed a Japanese commander into the river, clung to him, and together they drowned! She is now regarded as a heroine for having done that brave deed!

A silhouette of Maurie. From this building they shot arrows at the gun totin' Japanese invaders. They also partied here when not fighting wars.
