ARIRANG
(korean folk
song)
Arirang,
arirang, arariyo,
Arirang kokearo naumawkanda.
Na reul pauriko kashineun
nimeun,
Shimrido motkasaw palpyong nan
da.
Walking over the peak at
Arirang,
you left me behind.
You won't walk far before you
get sore feet.
Walking over the peak at
Arirang,
the sorrows in my heart,
are as many as the
stars in the sky.
In October 2001, Darcy and I intend to embark on an exciting career
change: Teaching english to speakers of other languages! And the first
country we will visit to kick things off is, South Korea. We have been
hired by the SISA Academy in Masan, South Korea, and the school will be
providing us with return airfare and a three bedroom apartment near the
school.
Masan is a beautiful seaside city of 500,000 people, and we will be
teaching children, for the most part. They are extremely cute, and
basically, the idea is to just get them playing some games, then to go
around to each individual with a Korean speaking teacher and model some
english for them!
The school director, whose honorable title in Korean is "Won Chang Nim" is
a very kind man, and his name is Im Jae Ho. We have been in contact with
him by Email, and we are very much looking forward to working with him.
Right now, we are listening to Korean language tapes and are learning some
basic phrases:
Anyong Haseyo=hello!
Cum sa hamneeda=thank you very much!
and here's my favourite:
MOON JAY OP SO YO!!! = no problem!!!
As you can imagine, we are VERY excited, and we will be posting some pics
of us at "work" and of our journeys around Asia! Masan is close to
Japan..........and a trip to China would be, well, MOON JAY OP SO YO!
So come and visit us often at this page, and we will be adding pics as
fast as we can send them to Jamie, at Fountain Hills, AZ, who handles
these web pages. Click on his
link, he does awesome work!
Undoubtedly, I will be playing some music in Korea. It would also be great
to get down to Australia where "Redneck" has been playing on radio lately.
Anyway, we go where the Lord leads us, and we are constantly consulting
Him for guidance..........we are sure that He has some special work for us
to do in Korea...........our lives and our future are in His own
protecting Hands, and we trust Him completely!
HERE WE ARE A YEAR AND A
HALF LATER!
Here's the real reason my hair
is brown
.............my beautiful
Korean barber!!! :-)
Look,
I ate so much Kimchi my hair turned brown!
These are special traditional
outfits called "Hanboks" and they were given to us by Sisa School in
appreciation of our service. Hey, I take it back, it wasn't as easy as I
thought, but you know, we wouldn't take 'nuthin' for our journey now. We
have had alot of struggles and alot of victories and good times. Through
it all we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus our Lord! Now in a
few days (May 1st 2003) we fly back to Canada. It's going to seem so
strange to be surrounded by so many 'foreigners' ha ha! :-)
